DR Sisterhood

DR Sisterhood is a service set up by women, mainly for other women - but we don't turn men away!
It is a type of concierge service where we are your eyes and ears in the Dominican Republic. Anything you need doing here we can do it for you.

  • Check out if your boyfriend is a sanky panky
  • Make telephone calls in Spanish for you
  • Check out the prices of anything
  • Translate those text messages which on line translators cannot cope with
  • Provide you with information about anything - schools, hotels, the law
  • Help you to find accommodation or a job
  • Carry out an legal work for you such as property related, or divorces, or help with legal translations and marriage questions.
We can chat with you about any Dominican related subject as the service is run by women who live in, or have lived in the DR or who visit frequently.

Drop by the DR Sisterhood site and take a look. Or email with any questions at drsisterhoodlindsay@gmail.com

  1. Hi Lindsay. I bought your book last year when my daughter was preparing to study abroad in the DR. Fast forward to now. She fell in love with a Dominican man, came home (Chicago IL USA) to finish school then returned to work in Santo Domingo for a year. They attempted to get a Visa for him to visit us at Christmas which resulted in a dent in the wallet of $160 and a heartbreaking NO. We are trying not to burst her bubble but it appears her dream to get him a student visa to the US is just that...a dream. He comes from very little means and we are middle class which is nowhere near the money I imagine it might take to accomplish their dream. Any words of advice? signed>MOM who's trying to balance being supportive yet realistic

    1. MOM email me at lindsay@drsisterhood.com and I will try and help you. It will be very hard for him to get a visitor visa but there are ways.

  2. Hi Lindsay

I realise you're a busy woman... But if you get a chance could you make a phone call for me. 8095666638. It's a Company that specialise in Firework displays based in SD. What I need, is to find out if they know of any retail outlets for fireworks in either La Romana, Higuey or Bavaro/Punta Cana areas.

Reason being, it's my wifes 50th on the 21st & we'll be celebrating with friends from Higuey. She loves fireworks and I would get an awful lot of "Brownie points" if I could surprise her with some.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    1. Sorry no, as I don't specialise in visa issues, but the US embassy website has all the information.

  4. What do you do if you meet a DR guy in another country, like him a lot, but he is here as a sanky panky for someone else? Do you have info on this, on the site? Thanks

    1. If he is a sanky panky for someone else, the chances are he is for you too. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

  5. How does your agency actually find.out if someone is a sanky panky? Isnt it evident to a woman?

    1. Yes it should be completely evident but many women will not believe it. We use all sorts of methods - often putting them in touch with another woman who has been with a sanky panky to help them to understand.

  7. Ladies, ladies, ladies... How much more naive can you be? A poor, fifth world man - often much younger than you are - and you think he is into you...

It is sad to say, but if you get burned, and as we can see just about all of you do, you brought it upon yourselves all by yourselves.

Unless a woman and a man are on the same level economically, there will never be a "true love" scenario. Just an opportunistic one. The victim is the party that is better off economically.

But, if you prefer, feel free to keep deluding yourselves. However wrong that it may be in the eyes of a neutral observer.

A friendly comment from a DR guy who lives in the UK since 8 years old, but watches white women being taken for a ride every time he visits the island. EVERY time. Including the married ones that live on the island. A bit of an eye-opener: latinos do not have the "love" concept like the Europeans. For us it is all about frenetic discharge of carnal desire first and foremost. European women seem to like that and think it is an expression of love.

    Naive.

Take care of yourselves in a foreign land for there is no one else to do it for you. Please.
